I am continually stunned by how many seemingly sane people believe in infinite growth on a finite planet.

I shouldn’t be surprised though.  Our entire culture is based on a series of lies so deeply ingrained that they go entirely unquestioned. Our economic system is built around the logical fallacy of infinite growth on a finite planet. When the system can no longer grow, it will inevitably collapse.

Even more disturbing is the fact that beliefs such as perpetual economic growth and limitless technological expansion are somehow seen as the ultimate definition of what it is to be human. They are apparently what we were “meant to do”.

It doesn’t take a genius to realize how flawed and dangerous the reasoning that fuels the dominant culture actually is. One only needs imaginative power and disrespect for the traditional current of thought to discover the blatantly obvious.

I highly recommend Richard Heinberg’s The End of Growth: Adapting to our New Economic Reality.
